    "Poet's Oasis Sharing Space"

Description & Guidelines for the Poet's Oasis Private Facebook Group
What it is? How it works? And what will keep it running smoothly.
Please read through if you plan on joining the group and posting your work there.

The Poet’s Oasis Sharing Space exists because many of us wished we could see each other’s poems on the page. We hear powerful work in the room, and often find ourselves wondering how someone formatted a line or where they might put the line breaks. This online group gives us one place to share the poems created in our sessions so we can revisit them after we leave the library. Consider it an online extension of our in person gatherings. My hope is that it mirrors the atmosphere of Poet’s Oasis: calm, welcoming, focused, and free of clutter. It is not designed to be a general discussion group or an open mic. It is like a bowl in the center of our table, holding only the poems we write together.

Who can join

This group is for people who have attended at least one Poet’s Oasis session at the Palm Desert Library. If you have been in the room, you are welcome to join. Please do not invite friends or outside writers unless they have attended a session themselves. This helps keep the community clear and connected, and ensures the work posted there grows out of our shared experience.

What you may post
  • A typed version of a poem you wrote during a Poet’s Oasis session

  • A photo of your handwritten draft, if typing is difficult

  • Your own poems only

  • A new, revised version of a poem you’ve previously posted

  • Favorite past Poet’s Oasis poems, shared occasionally

What you may not post

To keep the space focused and peaceful, please avoid:

  • Work created outside of Poet’s Oasis

  • Poems written by anyone other than you

  • Event flyers, promotions, or advertisements

  • Links, articles, or unrelated material

  • Political pieces written outside the session

  • A large batch of poems posted all at once

Posting is optional

There is no expectation to post every time, or ever. You can join the group simply to read. If you want to share your poem sometimes, you are welcome to. If you prefer not to, that is fine too.

Encouraging typed poems

Typed poems are easier for everyone to read and help us see your structure, spacing, and line breaks. If possible, type your poem before posting. If typing is difficult, a photo of your draft is perfectly acceptable.

Comments and responses

You are welcome to comment on poems in whatever way feels natural to you. Thoughtful and eloquent responses are fine, and simple appreciation is fine too. You are also not obligated to respond to anyone. Long critiques or debates are not needed. The goal is appreciation and clarity, not analysis or debate.

A note about political poems

If you wrote a political poem during the session, you may post it. We all heard it in the room, so the context is shared. Please do not post political pieces created outside the prompts.

Privacy and boundaries

This is a private group. Please do not copy, repost, or forward anyone’s poem without their explicit permission. The work shared here belongs to its authors.

If issues arise

In the event that someone posts content that falls outside these guidelines, I may gently redirect them or remove the post. If a pattern continues, I will reach out privately. These boundaries are here to keep the space clear.

A reminder of the purpose

This space is not about perfection. It is not about promotion. It is simply a home for the poems that are created during our time together. A chance to see them on the page. A place to revisit a moment of writing that happened in community.

Thank you for helping keep this space calm, readable, and rooted in the spirit of Poet’s Oasis. I am glad you are here.
